Your website's owner can ask for a private copy of the information kept for that website. A copy includes drafts and unpublished records. It never changes your website or makes anything public.
Ask for a copy
- Choose Account in the editor.
- Under Your data, choose Request a copy.
- Come back to Account later to check your copy's progress. An email lets you know when it is prepared.
Only the website's owner can ask for a copy. If you help with a website as an editor, ask an owner to request it.
When it is prepared
The screen says when your copy is prepared, and an email lets you know it is ready. Return to Account and choose Download your copy while signed in with the same account that requested it. You must still be an owner of that website. Each owner sees their own requests; another owner's copy is not shared through Account. The private download link is short-lived, and the prepared copy is available for a limited time.
What to expect
- A copy is private to the website and does not change the public website, its drafts or its records.
- Only one copy can be prepared for a website at a time, even when more than one owner can request one.
- If preparation stops or an earlier copy is no longer available, Request another copy starts a new request when the button is available.
Information is collected while your copy is being prepared, so it may include changes made during that time. Keep it somewhere private, especially if the website has contact details, messages or unpublished work that you would not share publicly.
If something goes wrong
- "A copy is already being prepared for this website." Wait for that request to finish before asking again. Another owner may have started it.
- "You’ve requested several copies recently." Try again later.
- "Only the website’s owner can request a copy." Ask an owner to request it, or have an owner change your role on Members. See Inviting owners and editors.
- The download is unavailable. Use the account that requested the copy and make sure it is still an owner of that website. Account shows an expired copy as expired even before cleanup runs; request another copy when the button is available.
- Preparation stops after a photo changes. If an original photo changes or is removed while your copy is being prepared, that copy may stop. Choose Request another copy to collect the information again when the button is available.
