The Photos screen holds every photo on your website in one place, so you can add photos, find a photo, see where it is used and delete the ones you no longer need.
What is on the screen
At the top is how much of your plan's photo room you have used, with a note that your Opening banner, About photo and Logo are chosen in Look. Each has a small card here that links to the same place, so an old link or habit still finds it. A change to the banner or About photo waits for Publish, like the rest of your website's settings.
Below is the Photo library: a card for every stored photo, with its description and a small Used on list. Photos you added from the page editor, photos of your dogs, litters, puppies and productions, and the photos in your pedigrees are all here, each shown once.
Add photos
Choose Upload photos above the library and pick one or more. Each photo is resized and has its location data removed, then joins the library marked In your library. It is attached to nothing, so it changes nothing on your website until a page uses it. Photos count toward your plan's photo allowance from the moment they are added. If your plan is full you are told, with a way to make room or upgrade, and the photos not yet added are kept so you can try again.
Find a photo
- Search matches a photo's description and the names in its Used on list, such as a page's name.
- Filter by Use to see only photos used on your website, or only the ones Not used anywhere. Filter by Kept with to see photos that are in the library, are site photos, or belong to a record.
- Sort by newest, oldest or description.
What "Used on" means
A photo is used when something on your website would lose its picture without it:
- the opening banner, About photo or logo, live or waiting for Publish (these link to Look);
- a page that shows the photo, including a page you have not published yet (marked not published yet);
- a shared item such as a testimonial, or a pedigree position;
- a record it belongs to. These say, for example, "Dog photo" and link to that record.
Delete a photo
A photo that is Not used anywhere yet has a Delete button. You are asked first. Deleting removes it from your library for good, with no Undo, and gives its room back to your plan's photo allowance.
A photo that is used cannot be deleted from here. Its card says where it is used. Take it off there first, for example choose another photo on the page, publish if it was live, then delete it here. Photos that belong to a record are changed on that record's own page.
The database checks photo use and deletes the photo in one step, so nothing can start using it between the check and the delete. One limit remains: a page save already in progress can finish just after the delete, and that saved page would then point at a photo that is gone. If a photo is already in use when the delete runs, nothing is deleted.
Delete several at once
Press Select above the library, choose photos, then press Delete in the bar. Only photos that can be deleted have a checkbox. This works like changing many records at once: Select this page chooses the cards you can see, Select all chooses every photo your search and filters match when that is 200 or fewer, and you can delete up to 200 in one step.
The delete is all or nothing. If any chosen photo has been put to use since you opened the page, nothing is deleted and you are told how many are in use.
Delete is the only bulk action here, on purpose. The other things you can do to a photo are about one photo at a time (describing it, or setting its focal point where it is used), and moving a photo to a record or page would change what your website shows, which is not something to do to a batch from a library.
What to expect
- A deleted photo cannot be brought back, and its room returns to your plan's photo allowance.
- Your website keeps its pictures: a photo that is used is never deleted from here.
- Deleting several photos at once is all or nothing, so you never end up with half a batch removed.
- Photos you add on a page or a record appear here without any extra step, and photos you upload here are ready to choose from any page's photo picker.
If something goes wrong
- "Still used on…": take the photo off the page or setting named, publish if it was live, and try again.
- "Your plan includes … photos" when you upload: delete photos you no longer use (here, or from a record), then upload again.
- "The upload didn't finish": check your connection and choose Try again. Photos already added stay; only the ones not yet added are sent again.
- "Some of those photos are already gone": another tab or person removed them. Refresh the page and choose again.
- We couldn't reach the server: check your connection. Nothing was deleted, so you can try again.
